EIANZ-SEQ again held the "Face to Face - an afternoon with the Directors General" event.

This important forum focused on current issues and future policy and regulatory directions in environmental and natural resource management in Queensland. It was a unique opportunity for Environmental Professionals to examine and contrast the perspectives and visions of the Directors-General of government agencies with responsibilities in the environmental and natural resource sectors. Speakers included Mr Terry Wall, Director-General, Environmental Protection Agency, Mr David Hourigan, Queensland Transport; Mr Dan Hunt, Director-General, Department of Mines and Energy; Mr Scott Spencer, Director-General, Department of Natural Resources and Water; and Mr Michael Walsh, Deputy Director-General, Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

The Directors-General addressed a range of current issues and future directions in environmental and natural resource regulations in Queensland, including:

  • New directions in portfolios, including
  • Climate Change and Sustainability portfolio which has replaced Environment
  • Inclusion of Planning within Department of Infrastructure
  • Provision and servicing infrastructure
  • Responses to energy and climate change issues.
