Welcome to The Top End!
The objectives of the Northern Territory Division of EIA encompass public statements of policy, communication, general recruitment and education links. As appropriate, the Division provides an EIA response to policy matters within the Territory.
The NT Division has targeted increasing contact with other related organisations, as part of a recruitment drive and as a means of drawing upon skills and interests outside the EIANZ to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of environment protection work. To date, the Division has links with: Institution of Engineers Australia, Royal Australian Planning Institute, Australian Water and Wastewater Association, Royal Australian Institute of Architects and the Australian Institute of Valuers and Land Economists. Arising from sustained communication with these organisations has been a strong interest in a program of continuing professional development.
General recruitment involves drawing upon members from regional WA and Qld who have interests in common with NT matters. Through such canvassing the Division assembles a network for the local newsletter and notice of forthcoming events.
With respect to environmental education, the Division has established links via special seminars with the Northern Territory University and schools through the Education Advisory Council. There may be further opportunities to expand this involvement through Internet activities.
