FNQ Update - May 2011
Mt St John WPP Site Visit
Thanks to Townsville City Council Project Manager, Steve Gray, and Hunter Water Representative, Craig White, for presenting on the Townsville Wastewater Upgrade Project and showing our members around the site.
The main components of the project are:
• construction of a 106,500EP biological nutrient removal treatment system upgrade to Mt St John Water Purification Plant (WPP)
• diversion of sewer flows from the Northern Beaches, Kirwan and Bohle Plains areas to Mt St John WPP (28 kilometres of rising main and five major pump stations)
• transfer of Bohle Industrial WPP effluent to Mount St John WPP decommissioning of Mt Low/Deeragun WPPs.
Steve Gray and Craig White provided an interesting presentation on:
1. The process for selecting the centralised strategy
2. Setting of discharge limits for the plant and negotiations with the Department of Environment and Resource Management
3. The plant treatment process
4. Environmental approvals obtained for construction of the project.
